!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
This is very fitting end to the most tragic of first world problems.

Huh. I feel bad for that guy. I’m kind of surprised BMW isn’t doing anything more to fix this, especially for someone who’s clearly a long-time customer, and vocal on forums.
But yeah, very much a first world problem.

I mean I certainly know when I drop 8 0k+ on something I custom order I wholly expect it to be wrong when I get it.

In all seriousness, I never understood the vitriol aside fro m perhaps that the posts droned on for a bit. But having nearly lost my mind when the shop that was just supposed to fix the brakes on my FiST managed to utterly destroy it, I can attest to how maddening it can be to feel powerless about your beloved car. I would liken what happened to him to paying for the finest 2-week vacation in Paris. The best hotels, the best food, guided tours, and the whole 9 yards. Then you hop off the plane, the private limo picks you up. Aaaaaaaand it takes you to a lovely 2 week stay in BELGIUM. And then you get to experience two weeks of the nicest that Belgium has to offer.

Custom order. This photo tells the real story:

One of my favorite car drama stories. So many people mad at a BMW customer who wants the car he ordered.

I very much still like this color.

Oh, for sure. I just feel like the “pro” photos in the listing don’t actually do this color justice. The sun really makes it pop.

I never knew how this story ended. From the BaT comments:
BMW eventually built the car per the original specification after some public embarrassment on Jalopnik and Bimmerpost. Compensation for the incident from BMW changed over time as my case got bumped around different people at BMW. Ultimately, they reimbursed my airfare, bought an M-performance exhaust, and of course built the car to the correct specification.
The big issue was that the seats were an 8-week lead-item and the production was ending in 6-weeks. Ultimately they were able to make it happen by building the car and then finishing it at the same completion center where the “real” Individual cars are built (like an Individual 7-series). If you run the VIN through a decoder, it actually shows “Later modification by ZS” and all the items completed through that process.

Also, hold up. This guy contemplated this car for YEARS. After the huge debacle in getting it right with BMW, they did finally build it the way he wanted it done. So he keeps it for a few years and then sells it?! With only 14,000 miles on it.
Maybe after all the BS, he’s sick of looking at it, thinking about it. I don’t know.
